PROVIDENCE — The diocesan Office of Faith Formation has been planning a special event for all women who desire to grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ through scripture, prayer, liturgy and fellowship with other women. The annual Rhode Island Catholic Women’s Conference will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul beginning at 8:30 a.m. with Mass celebrated by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin.
The day will feature dynamic and encouraging talks, vendors, live music, prayer, a coffee an’ and lunch. This year’s event welcomes speakers Liz Cotrupi, director of Family Life & Ecclesial Movements in the Archdiocese of Boston, and Father Kevin Cook, vocations director for the Diocese of Fall River and pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Seekonk.
Cotrupi will present on the question “What is Love?” reflecting on how God calls us to love in the Sacrament of Matrimony, but also in the single life — and more broadly — as a Christian seeking to live out our baptismal call to holiness.
Father Cook’s presentation, “Nurturing the Call from the Lord,” will focus on how the faithful can foster and support religious vocations within the family.
Special guest Liz Cotrupi Pfunder, national Catholic musician, songwriter and speaker will also lead everyone in prayer and song.
The conference schedule also includes opportunities for confession and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Some women have shared that all of these elements help the day to feel like a retreat, explained Assistant Director of the Office of Faith Formation Michelle Donovan.
“We are very happy to be able to offer the Women’s Conference again after not being able to gather in 2020,” said Donovan. “This event has been very well-received since it began in 2017. It is a wonderful day for Catholic women to spend time and to be present with one another in prayer and fellowship. It is a time to learn together so that we can be equipped for the mission of evangelization in our homes, in our parishes and in the world. It is a day to worship together and to be renewed by the grace that God gives us through his sacraments.”
