Mary and Joseph show us we never know what to expect from God. He can surprise us with joy and contentment beyond our own expectations if we simply place our trust in Him. The Lord is coming to do great things for us. Rhode Island Catholic recently asked readers to submit photos of their treasured nativity scenes.
The Nativity above belongs to Kathleen Sabetti, of Greenville. Kathleen writes, “Our third child was due Christmas Eve, 1964. There was no sign of an imminent arrival two days later, so my husband left to do some post-Christmas shopping. About two hours later he surprised me with a beautiful carved wood nativity set, which he had purchased half price at Tally’s in Providence. The workmanship is amazing! The faces of all the figures are delicately painted, and the three kings wear elegantly designed robes. We have never found an artist’s name on any of the pieces, but it is made completely of wood and ‘Italy’ is painted on the stable. Had the baby been born on time, I doubt that my husband (the late Deacon Carlo Sabetti) would have been able to find the time to go shopping! Our little girl made her entrance on New Year’s Day."
