Father George L. Allard

WEST WARWICK — Reverend George L. Allard, 87, Pastor Emeritus of Christ the King Parish, West Warwick, died Sunday, March 28, 2021.
Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, son of the late Oliver and Gertrude (Coutu) Allard, he attended the Jesus-Mary and Precious Blood Schools, and Mount Saint Charles Academy, all in Woonsocket.
In preparation for the priesthood, he studied at Our Lady of Providence Seminary, Warwick and Saint Paul Seminary in Ottawa, Canada. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1960 at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence by Bishop Russell J. McVinney.
Father Allard served as assistant pastor at the following parishes: Saint Joseph, Woonsocket (1960-63); Precious Blood, Woonsocket (1963-74); Saint Joseph, Pascoag (1974-75); Saint Charles, Woonsocket (1975-76); and Our Lady of Consolation, Pawtucket (1976-77). During his time at St. Joseph Parish, Pascoag, Father also served as chaplain for Zambarano Hospital. In 1977, he was appointed pastor of Saint Cecilia Parish, Pawtucket and served there until 1990, when he was transferred to Christ the King Parish, West Warwick, from which he retired in 2004 as Pastor Emeritus.
During retirement, Father Allard lived at the St. John Vianney Residence, Providence, and then at the Village at Waterman Lake, Greenville, where he lived at the time of his death.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was offered for the repose of Father’s soul on Tuesday, April 6, at Precious Blood Church, Woonsocket. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin served as the main celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.
