PROVIDENCE — On Sunday, Sept. 27, the Diocese of Providence held the annual Wedding Anniversary celebration, welcoming more than 200 couples marking milestone anniversaries from 84 parishes across Rhode Island as they renewed their wedding vows.
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin celebrated the Mass in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul for those celebrating 70, 60, 50, 40 and 25 years together, offering a special blessing for the couples. This year, two couples are celebrating their 75th anniversaries, but due to their frailty, neither couple was able to attend. In recognition of these extraordinary milestone anniversaries, the diocese has secured Papal Blessings for both couples. Three couples are celebrating their anniversary on September 26: one for 57 years, another for 51 years and the third for 40 years. In addition, four deacons and their wives celebrated milestones at the special Mass: two celebrating 50 years of marriage, one 40 years, and one 26 years.
In his greeting, Bishop Tobin called the day “a truly blessed and happy occasion.”
“We come to thank God for all of the many gifts and blessings they have received throughout the years and we pray that God continue to bless them abundantly in the days and years to come.
