Catholic paper not the place for letter writers’ presidential preferences

To the Editor:

I was very disappointed when I read two Letters to the Editor in the July 23 edition of The R.I. Catholic pertaining to a presidential election. I read the paper to help in my spiritual life not to be bombarded by people telling me who they support politically.
I have been a Roman Catholic for all of my 85 years and if I wish to make my support for a particular candidate known then I will send a letter to The Providence Journal.
I urge the newspaper to refrain from printing these letters in the future. It diminishes your highly-regarded paper. God Bless.
