Deacon Joseph Tumminelli

PROVIDENCE — Deacon Joseph Tumminelli, of Johnston passed away on Sunday, October 27, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Claire Tumminelli.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Peter and Josephine (Marchisotto) Tumminelli.
Joseph was a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, proudly serving his country for 25 years. Following his military career, Joe spent 25 years as an industrial arts teacher at Henry Barnard School, during which time he worked with disabled children from Meeting Street School. In addition to his career as a serviceman and educator, Joe co-founded Troop 20 Johnston where he served as assistant scout master for over 35 years helping scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
Joe’s true passion belonged to God and the church, calling St. Robert Bellarmine his second home for 50 years. He first served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and then as an ordained deacon for nearly 30 years. Joseph dedicated his life to God, faith, and serving the community. His memory will be cherished by those that had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, unwavering faith, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He is predeceased by his late son Christopher Tumminelli and survived by his 4 children Adam Tumminelli, Elizabeth Antunes, Richard Tumminelli, Candice Ficken, 16 grandchildren, and many great & great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 5, at St. Robert Bellarmine Church followed by burial with military honors at St Ann’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Food Closet.
