Diocese announces ordination of Jairon Gabriel Olmos Rivera to Sacred Order of the Diaconate

PROVIDENCE — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has announced that on Saturday, May 13, the Most Reverend Richard G. Henning, S.T.D., will ordain Jairon Gabriel Olmos Rivera, 31, to the transitional diaconate at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence.
Olmos Rivera is the son of Juan Ramon and Iris Allagracia, born in Bayaguana, Dominican Republic. Before coming to the Diocese of Providence, he had been with the Capuchin Franciscans in Custodia General of the Dominican Republic. He attended the Colegio San Francisco de Asis, Santo Domingo, D.R. Olmos Rivera completed "Pre-Theology" at Our Lady of Providence and is currently in theological formation at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, Mass.
A deacon serves the people of God in the ministries of liturgy, the Word, and charity. Deacons may baptize, proclaim the Gospel and preach at Mass, distribute Holy Communion, witness marriages, and lead rites of Christian burial.
