Father Chinnaiah Yerrnini was installed as pastor of St. Joseph Church in Hope Valley on Sunday, August 18. Auxiliary Bishop Robert C. Evans joined in celebrating the Mass before a full church — all those gathered on the special occasion to welcome Father Yerrnini.
In his homily, Bishop Evans shared that the new pastor has been given the position of authority to guide his parish family to the kingdom of God in heaven, adding that the mission of pastor is two-fold — a mission of service and of leadership.
“He will do it by administering the sacraments, teaching the Gospel and he will guide the parish family as Jesus would guide them,” said Bishop Evans. “That is our hope and prayer. He can do this because Father is not above you, but he is one of you. It is the duty of a shepherd to set an example, not only to follow but to lead as well.”
