ORLANDO — Reverend Joseph D. Creedon has been named the 2023 recipient of the Christian Stewardship Award by the board of directors of the International Catholic Stewardship Council (ICSC). The award was presented to Father Creedon during the Council’s opening plenary session in Orlando on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023.
Father Creedon is pastor emeritus of Christ the King Parish in Kingston, where he served for 31 years. He served the Diocese of Providence for 55 years as a high school religion teacher, a college campus minister and as a parish priest. A number of publications have been inspired by his theological reflections. He is the author of “After the Ashes” and six other daily Lenten reflection booklets, “Crossing the Desert” and six other daily Advent reflection booklets, and two recently published books, “Stewardship: A Life-Giving Spirituality” and “Walking in the Light of His Word – Daily Scripture Reflections.” He has presented parish missions and stewardship workshops for parishes and clergy throughout the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
Father Creedon studied theology at the University of Louvain in Belgium. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Law Degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1991. He was also a Fellow of Psychiatry and Religion at the Menninger Clinic in 1980.
A profound stewardship resource for ICSC members, Father Creedon served two terms on the ICSC board of directors and was a member of ICSC’s Parish Stewardship Committee for several years.
“He has been a familiar face at many ICSC conferences over the years, most of the time as a popular presenter, always engaging attendees with his humor and wit,” according to the organization. “His contributions to parish stewardship formation cannot be over-stated. His knowledge and wisdom have helped to build up stewardship efforts in parishes and dioceses across North America and beyond.”
