Hope After the Storm: St. Thomas More Mission Teams Provide Critical Aid in Jamaica

Posted

Following the devastation of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, the missionary teams from St. Thomas More in Narragansett recently completed a vital service trip to Jacob’s Ladder in Jamaica. At the invitation of the Mustard Seed Communities Apostolates, the team provided both physical relief and spiritual support, serving as a significant asset to the local recovery efforts. To restore a sense of normalcy and joy, volunteers hosted several community events for residents, including movie nights, bingo, and a “Special Olympics” competition. Beyond these social engagements, the team completed critical infrastructure improvements, including a new clothesline system, interior demolition for cottage renovations, and painting to ensure the long-term comfort of the facility’s residents. The mission’s success was made possible by the dedication of local caregivers and the steadfast prayers and support of the St. Thomas More Parish family. By answering the call to serve in the wake of a historic storm, the volunteers reinforced their commitment to the vulnerable populations of Jacob’s Ladder.
