EAST GREENWICH — Grace Jelinek, a seventh grader at Our Lady of Mercy School, was awarded first place in the junior division of the 2020 Rhode Island Right to Life essay contest.
The junior division is open to all students in the state of Rhode Island from grades 7-9. This year’s contestants were asked to answer the question: “Why are you Pro-Life?” Jelinek summed up her pro-life convictions in the essay this way: “Abortion tears apart families and destroys ideas of what is moral. It gives people the wrong idea of happiness.”
Jelinek, her parents and younger sisters are parishioners at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, where she is also an altar server.
