PROVIDENCE — The Board of Trustees of La Salle Academy announced that Br. Dennis Malloy, President, will assume the role of President Emeritus effective June 30, 2025. Br. Dennis has led the organization with unwavering dedication, earning widespread respect and affection from staff, students, and the greater community. As he prepares to conclude his tenure as President, the Board and entire La Salle Academy community join together in expressing heartfelt gratitude for his many years of service.
To ensure a seamless transition, the Board has appointed a familiar name and face—longtime La Salle Academy principal Donald Kavanagh—as Interim President, effective July 1, 2025. Mr. Kavanagh had served alongside Br. Dennis for three years prior to retiring as principal in 2023. Mr. Kavanagh will guide La Salle through its next chapter while a search for a permanent successor to Br. Dennis is conducted. The Board anticipates the search process will conclude by early 2026, ensuring that La Salle Academy’s mission continues uninterrupted.
“Br. Dennis’s contributions have been nothing short of transformative,” said David Miele, Chair of La Salle Academy’s Board of Trustees. “In both living and teaching our Lasallian values, Br. Dennis gave our community a great gift. His gentle but firm leadership was inspiring and hugely comforting to all of us. We will deeply miss his guidance, but we are forever grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.”
As Br. Dennis prepares to step down, he reflected on this milestone moment; “There comes a time for all of us when our personal health becomes a priority. My time is now. Retirement for me is bittersweet,” Br. Dennis remarked. “I am humbled by the trust placed in me and honored to have served this fine institution and community. I know La Salle will continue to thrive under Don’s capable stewardship. I look forward to cheering on my beloved La Salle from the sidelines.”
