The St. Augustine Knights of Columbus recently gave a grant to the parish school to have the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council do six after school presentations on river biology. The partnership concluded with a field trip to Riverside Park in Providence where the students had hands-on experience with sampling aquatic life and its implications for water purity. In addition, there was an opportunity to learn about indigenous plants, pollinators and soil erosion. “What gets me really excited is that in the coming year the lesson plans will incorporate elements from Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Si’, On Care for the Environment,” said Robert Chase, Knights of Columbus.
