Local youth, adults honored for commitment to faith

PROVIDENCE — As the COVID-19 pandemic prevented holding the annual celebration of the Diocesan Catholic Youth Ministry and Scouting Awards at the Cathedral, a bright ray of hope beamed in the local presentations of the major national awards: the St. Timothy and Companions on the Journey. Eight youth and five adults were chosen from those nominated by their parishes and Catholic high schools to receive these prestigious honors.
“The stories of each of the individuals was inspiring and faith enriching,” said Louise ‘Duce’ Dussault, Director of Catholic Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Providence. “Bishop Tobin sent a personal letter of congratulations to each of the recipients. We pray that the impassioned expressions of their lived faith continue to touch more lives as they pursue their respective journeys.”
In his letter to the recipients, Bishop Tobin wrote that it is inspiring to see the awardees living out their Catholic faith even during these challenging times.
“I commend you for that dedication and pray that you will always show that zeal for the Lord wherever He leads you in life,” said Bishop Tobin.
Though not in a formal presentation, the 2021 awardees will be recognized and honored in the March 13, 2022 booklet and celebration.
