WAKEFIELD — Dave Estes, principal of The Prout School, announced that Prout seniors Katherine Conforti, Michael Garman, Molly Graybill and Janice Hixon were named Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.
More than 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Approximately 1% of those 1.5 million students are named Semifinalists. The majority of Semifinalists will go on to become Finalists and compete for one of 2,500 National Merit $2,500 scholarship awards, as well as about 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards. In addition, about 180 colleges and universities are expected to finance some 4,100 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution. Awardees will be announced in the spring of 2021.
Prout senior Katherine Plunkett was named a Commended Student in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, finishing in the top 3% of PSAT/NMSQT test takers. She received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program.
