PC’s FriarServe kicks off ninth year of service and $300K in Catholic School Scholarships

PROVIDENCE — Diocese of Providence Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., and Providence College President Father Ken Sicard, O.P., were recently joined by Catholic school teachers and students to celebrate the renewal of PC’s FriarServe program. FriarServe, now beginning its ninth year, pairs PC students, faculty and staff with five Catholic K-8 schools – St. Augustine, Bishop McVinney, Blessed Sacrament, St. Pius V, and St. Rocco. The PC contingent volunteers across a myrid roles throughout the academic year including tutoring, homework help, after school clubs, gardening and more. Through the first eight years of FriarServe, 1,078 PC students, faculty and staff volunteered more than 6,000 service hours to these schools. In addition, the College provided a $100,000 donation to Diocesan Catholic Schools for K-8 scholarships at the start of each four-year cycle. This year’s donation marks a total of $300,000 in scholarship donations since the program’s inception.
