Rhode Island Catholic, El Catolico win national press awards


CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rhode Island Catholic and its Spanish language version, El Catolico, were honored with a combined seven awards by the Catholic Press Association of the U.S. and Canada during the organization’s annual Catholic Media Convention and Awards Banquet, held last week in Charlotte, N.C. The newspapers won a variety of awards for writing, as well as advertising in the following categories:

Best Sports Journalism – Sports Feature or Column

Second Place: Editor Rick Snizek – “Athletes with challenges go for Olympic gold”

Best Example of Effective Advertising Promotion Originating with the publication

First Place: Display Advertising Manager Richard Lafond – “Rhode Island Catholic Christmas Gift Guide”

Best Ad Copywriting

Honorable Mention: Assistant Editor/Production Manager Laura Kilgus – “Meet Emily, a 9th grader at St. Patrick Academy”
