Father Francis C. Santilli served as the main celebrant, with Bishop Thomas J. Tobin in choir, joined by many brother priests, including Father Stephen Battey, diocesan Scout chaplain, who served as the homilist.
In his homily, Father Battey shared that, with strength from receiving the sacraments, everyone has the extraordinary task to live out God’s will.
“This morning we take the opportunity to witness and congratulate our scouts and youth that have taken the first steps on that path...to begin to follow their own journeys of faith. We encourage them and all of us to take this as an opportunity to pause and to ask our Lord for the grace to be able to have that strength and persevere on all of our journeys.”
During the awards ceremony, Bishop Tobin offered his prayers and blessings over the awards and congratulated all of the recipients.
“Congratulations to the dozens of young people who received Scouting and Youth Ministry awards at our Cathedral today. And thanks to the adults who work so generously with them. In the faith and ministry of these youth and adults, ‘Christus Vivit’ — Christ is alive!”
