WORCESTER — Sister Elizabeth Gorman, 86, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, died on Saturday, January 16, 2016 in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester.

Sister Elizabeth was born in Providence, daughter of Raymond J. and Elizabeth (Markey) Gorman.

She graduated in 1947 from St. Mary Academy in Providence. In 1948, she entered the Sisters of Notre Dame. She graduated in 1958 from Emmanuel College in Boston with a degree in psychology. She did graduate work in special education at Fairfield University and Mathematics at Rhode Island College.

Sister Elizabeth was an educator for 31 years at several schools affiliated with the Sisters of Notre Dame. She was a teacher in schools in Mass., Conn. and R.I. She taught eighth grade and was principal at St. Ann School in Cranston and at Cranston -Johnston Catholic Regional School.

In 1982, she shifted her ministry to parish pastoral work at St. Joseph Church in Pascoag.

In 1991, she joined the pastoral staff at St. Margaret Church in Rumford, working with Rev. Thomas L. Keenan until her retirement in 2006.

Sister Elizabeth was predeceased by her brother Raymond J. Gorman, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth. She was the beloved aunt of Julie Gorman; Raymond J. Gorman III; William Gorman; Madeline Jackson; Catherine Smith; Henry and Carl Drew. She also leaves many grand-nieces and grand-nephews and her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame.

Her funeral Mass was held on Monday, Jan. 18, at the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel in Worcester. She was buried at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Cranston. There will be a memorial Mass at St. Margaret Church in Rumford in the spring.
