LONDON — Sister Ellen McCarthy (Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus) passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2025, in London, England. She had ministered there in the FCJ school and retreat center for six years. For more than 38 years she had served in the ministries of education and spiritual development in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Mexico, Alabama, England, and Spain.
Sister Ellen is survived by her FCJ sisters across the world, her brothers Daniel J. McCarthy and John McCarthy and her sister Susan McCarthy. She was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Claire McCarthy and brother James McCarthy.
The burial will be in the FCJ Cemetery in London, England. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Sr. Ellen’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence, RI.
Donations in her honor may be sent to the American Heart Association or the Rhode Island Food Bank.
