Sister Rosemary Laliberte, RSM

CUMBERLAND — Sister Rosemary Laliberte, (formerly Sister Maria Joseph), 78, a Sister of Mercy for 60 years, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph Roland and Mary Charlotte (Gorman) Laliberte. Sister Laliberte is survived by a sister, Roberta Moss; a brother, James Laliberte and his wife, Gina; her cousin Sister Marlene Laliberte, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Sister Rosemary’s religious motto was “To love in deed and truth.” During her years of ministry, she lived this motto wherever she served. Whether in leadership, in parish and outreach work, or in teaching, she always communicated caring love and went the extra mile. Sister Laliberte always referred to her time in the Central American missions as life-changing and it made her more compassionate to the poor and neglected.

Sister Laliberte will be remembered and missed for her love of life, the ways she affected people she met, and her ability to laugh and bring humor to any situation.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, January 31 in St. John Vianney Church, followed by interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister’s memory to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864 will be appreciated.
