WARWICK — Jamal Gomes, athletic director, has announced the addition of Stephen Baker ’20 to Bishop Hendricken’s Unified Volleyball and Unified Basketball coaching staff. Baker is a 2020 alumnus of the Br. Thomas Leto Options Program at Bishop Hendricken and recently graduated from Villanova University as part of its VUnited Scholars Program. He will serve as an assistant coach for both teams this season.
An enthusiastic and energetic student-athlete, Baker was a member of the Unified Volleyball and Unified Basketball teams all four years of his Hendricken career, earning state championships in Unified Volleyball in 2017 and 2018.
“I love being back at Hendricken and helping out the youth,” said Baker. “It’s been great to see all my old friends and teachers, too.”
Baker currently works next door to campus at Morris Farm, helping to tend and harvest crops. He is the first student from the Options Program to graduate from a Catholic university and is the first Unified student-athlete to return to Bishop Hendricken as a coach.
The Options Program is designed with the belief that all young men, including those with mild to moderate disabilities, should have the “option” of a Hendricken education. The focus of the program is to provide academic, social, and spiritual growth for studens in order to be successful and independent adults in the future.
