The Blessing of Saint Blaise
In honor of the liturgical commemoration of Saint Blaise, Father Thomas Woodhouse, pastor of St. Paul Parish in Cranston stops by St. Paul school to offer the traditional blessing of the throat. Saint Blaise was bishop of Sebaste in Armenia in the fourth century. Before being martyred, he is said to have healed a boy who was choking. Saint Blaise has been venerated as the patron of those who suffer from diseases of the throat. The blessing of Saint Blaise is a sign of the faith in God’s protection and love for us and for the sick.
