On Sunday, March 19, 45 couples gathered in the hall in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Providence, to participate in a diocesan couples retreat facilitated by Dr. Dora E. Tobar.

Dr. Tobar holds a doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and has more than 35 years of experience as a Theologian and Pastoral Minister, teaching at the University and parish levels, directing spiritual retreats, and creating resources for families. She is also creator and promoter of the program “The Happy Couple” and has been a consultant for family pastoral programs at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. She also was a presenter at the 2023 diocesan Faith Formation Convocation held at Bryant University.

Dr. Tobar discussed topics such as childhood trauma, the differences between men and women and the way they communicate, effective communication techniques and God’s love in the home. The retreat concluded with time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament and a prayer for inner healing.

The event was sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry. For more information about Hispanic couples retreats, contact Coordinator Mario Porcayo, at 401-421-7833 x4552, or mporcayo@dioceseofprovidence.org.
