Prout students selected as Presidential Scholars Program Candidates

WAKEFIELD — Three seniors of The Prout School were among only 4,500 of the top high school students across the United States named as candidates for the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program: Katherine Conforti of Saunderstown, Michael Garman of Newport, and Janice Hixon of Kingston. These three students are the first ever from The Prout School to be considered for the prestigious program.
Conforti, Garman, and Hixon were eligible for candidacy due to being U.S. high school students with exceptional SAT/ACT scores. Semifinalists will be notified in April 2021 and Scholars will be notified in May 2021. The Scholars will have the opportunity to attend an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for a ceremony to recognize their achievements. Over 3.6 million seniors will graduate in 2021, and only up to 161 will be recognized as Scholars.
“I am proud of how Prout’s students, particularly these seniors, have risen to the challenge.” says Principal Dave Estes, “They’ve continued to work wholeheartedly towards excellence, even when COVID-19 has challenged and disrupted the last two years of their education. Their successes are also a testament to the dedication of Prout’s faculty.”
