PROVIDENCE — Many individuals and groups will be honored by the Diocese of Providence with the 2018 Lumen Gentium Catholic Service Award in May.
The Lumen Gentium awards, first presented in 2013, honor those “who toil in the vineyard of the Lord.”
Msgr. Albert A. Kenney, Diocesan Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, serves as chairman of the Lumen Gentium Committee, which reviews the nominations submitted and presents to Bishop Thomas J. Tobin candidates for each award for his final approval.
He noted that once again a broad palette of strong nominees, who selflessly give of their time and talent in service to the church, was presented for consideration.
“As we always do, we have a great group of winners this year who truly love the church and her mission to serve others,” said Msgr. Kenney.
Among those to be honored are Louis Hebert, principal of Bishop McVinney School in the category of Catholic Education and Mike Krzywonos for his dedication to pro-life issues in the Respect Life category.
The recipients of the 2018 Lumen Gentium Award will be honored at an awards dinner scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln.
Proceeds from the Lumen Gentium 2018 Dinner will be distributed to Diocesan Hispanic Ministries, which provides the Hispanic population of the diocese with religious guidance, support and information on matters both secular and religious.
The office, which offers programs in both Spanish and English, also serves as the liaison between parishes, the Hispanic community and diocesan ministries, providing support and assistance in evangelization, education and formation.
To register for the banquet online, visit www.dioceseofprovidence.org/lumen-gentium-awards, or call Andrea H. Krupp in the Office of Stewardship and Development at 401-277-2121. Tickets are $100 each and tables seat 10 people.
