TO THE EDITOR:
I was shocked to read the editorial in the Sept. 26 edition of the Rhode Island Catholic (“Socialism and the new Green Dictatorship). In speaking of the efforts of young Greta Thunberg, the writer uses words such as “climate change rhetoric,” “propaganda” and “green dictatorship” — and that is all in the first paragraph! Many people see Greta as a climate change activist, a prophetic voice and one who is calling us to raise our awareness of a planet dying due to inaction. Oceans are warmer, erosion is apparent and life in all its forms is endangered. Greta is calling us to find ways to save God’s planet. Pope Francis’ “Laudato Si’” would be a good start for the editorial writer to begin his education on this topic.
