PORTSMOUTH — The Knights of Columbus Rooney Council 3618 in Portsmouth, was awarded the distinction of Star Council, the international organization’s top honor for local councils.
The Star Council Award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of growing membership, promoting Knights of Columbus insurance benefits, sponsoring Catholic Faith programs, and volunteering time through service-oriented activities.
The Portsmouth Knights of Columbus hold Lenten Fish Dinners to support St. Barnabas and St. Anthony Churches and the Portsmouth Senior Center. In addition, they hold an annual Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to support local Scout Troops. An annual Free-throw Championship is held for local youth. In the Fall, Coats for Kids are donated to those in need in the Portsmouth Community.
“These, and many other activities are being done by the Portsmouth Council to help support our great community, however, these programs come together with the great help and support of our Brotherhood of men who devote their time, talents, and gifts to make it happen,” said Jim Mace, Rooney Council Grand Knight. “This Star Council Award is the result of this team effort by all.”
