TO THE EDITOR:
Our country would be so much better off if only President Trump would follow the message he read at the National Prayer Breakfast: “Every child is precious and a sacred gift from God…we must protect, cherish and defend the dignity and sanctity of every human being.” (“An Important Voice of Support,” 2/6/20 Editorial). Instead, the President attacks programs that aid children, including health care, feeding programs and basic education. Rather than expand the Earned Income Tax Credit for families, he opposes it. His parental leave proposal is a sham, a scheme that would require families to trade off future benefits in exchange for something parents in other developed countries are guaranteed. Looking behind his words, we can see they are no more than words…just a script designed to win votes with no real concern for our youngest.
