In the February 17 edition, the news brief entitled “Miami Archbishop calls out Florida governor for views on migrant children” is misleading. Governor Ron DeSantis did not refer to migrant children as “disgusting”; he said the comparison of 1960s child migrants, to current child trafficking, is disgusting. Far from dehumanizing migrant children, he was speaking in their defense. Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski misconstrued DeSantis’ remarks, and media who reprint it without context — such as DeSantis’s actual remarks, and the fact that DeSantis has demanded a retraction and apology from the archbishop — are cooperating in defamation. I was truly disappointed to see Catholic News Service and my local Catholic newspaper spreading left-wing “narratives.”
