Giving thanks at Emmanuel House

Following a blessing, about 30 men and women guests of the diocesan Emmanuel House shelter enjoyed a traditional meal of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and assorted pies served by the staff and volunteers on Thanksgiving. One of the guests gave thanks for his ability to be present on this holiday. “I’m so happy to be here this year. I have been in the hospital and didn’t think I would be out in time for Thanksgiving, but I’m just happy to be here,” he said. A women’s shelter opened the week before on the second floor of Emmanuel House, just in time for Thanksgiving. “I’m very happy that the women’s shelter is open,” said one of the female guests. “It’s really nice to be here.”
