Joyce Frances Corey

WARWICK — Joyce Frances (Gudoyan) Corey, 82, of Warwick and Block Island, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
Corey was the loving wife of Rev. Mr. John A. Corey. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Nazareth and Carmela (La Polla) Gudoyan.
Corey was raised in Providence where she graduated from Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and from St. Teresa High School. She was an active member of the Block Island community for 17 years and later moved to Warwick. She worked at the Narragansett Inn, Gables Inn and served as a librarian at the Island Free Library. After moving back to the mainland, she worked at G. Fox Company as a sales representative for Cranston Mercantile and The Fabric Place.
Corey was a member of the Block Island Ecumenical Youth Group. She was also a member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Guild as well as the Rhode Island Quilting Society. In her free time, she enjoyed creating quilts (donated to Hasbro Children Hospital), making oriental rugs, baking for family and community events.
Alongside her devoted husband, she is survived by her beloved children, John A. Corey (Rhonda) of Warwick and Douglas J. Corey of Wakefield, her sister Judith DeFrancesco (Ronald) of Exeter and three grandchildren, Alexander J. Corey, Lara S. Corey, and Nicholas M. Corey. She was the sister of the late Ann Maccarone.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, April 15, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Exeter, with interment at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN. 38105.
