CHICAGO — Rhode Island Catholic and its Spanish language publication, El Católico de Rhode Island, were honored on Thursday, June 10, with a combined 27 awards by the Catholic Media Association of the U.S. and Canada during the organization’s 2021 Catholic Media Conference. The newspapers were honored in a variety of categories, including writing and photography, as well as design and advertising.
El Católico de Rhode Island won the most awards in a single year in the publication’s history.
Hundreds of members of the Catholic Press gathered in their offices and homes across the U.S. and Canada to participate in the virtual Catholic Press Awards celebrating the best in Catholic journalism. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Catholic Media Convention and Awards Presentation was live-streamed.
The awards were bestowed at the end of a three-day online media convention featuring educational seminars for journalists and Catholic communicators. Next year’s Catholic Media Convention and Awards Banquet is planned for Portland, Oregon.
