R.I. Catholic wins Rhode Island Press Association award

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Rhode Island Press Association on May 10 presented awards across more than 45 categories to journalists throughout the state for writing, design and photography in its editorial contest for 2023. Rhode Island Catholic Correspondent Jennifer Barton won Third Place in the Religion category for a story she wrote titled “Incorrupt Saints: Who Knew Religion Figures’ Bodies are Preserved?”
The association also formally inducted the next three members of its Journalism Hall of Fame: James N. Rhea (posthumous), of The Providence Journal; Barry Fain, of Providence Media; and John Pantalone, founding editor, Newport This Week. Lily Neves, a sophomore at Roger Williams University, was presented with this year’s student scholarship.
During the annual banquet, the association elected officers for the coming year: Ethan Shorey, of The Valley Breeze, as president; Carlos Muños, of Globe Rhode Island, as vice president, Sarah Francis, retired, as treasurer, and Will Richmond, of The Providence Journal, as secretary.
