PROVIDENCE — On Sunday, June 26, 1 p.m., join Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, D. D., Bishop of Providence, celebrant and homilist, for a special Solemn Holy Mass marking the closing of the Diocese of Providence’s 150th anniversary year at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio (the Pope’s official representative to the Church in the United States and to its Government), His Excellency, Most Rev. Christophe Pierre, D.D., J.C.D., and other honored guests.
Prior to the Mass there will be a concert celebrating the 150th Anniversary at noon in the cathedral. The special concert will include “Jubilee Te Deum” which Rev. Monsignor Anthony Mancini, rector of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul and conductor of the Gregorian Concert Choir and Orchestra, was commissioned to compose for a choral symposium in Calabria, Italy in the year 2000. The “Jubilee Te Deum” is a prayer of praise and Thanksgiving, most appropriate for the 150th anniversary celebration. Msgr. Mancini, conducting the Gregorian Concert Choir and Orchestra, will also be accompanied by Philip Faraone, K.G.C.H.S., organist of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.
A reception will follow the Solemn Holy Mass. Security will be provided. For more information visit dioceseofprovidence.org/150.
