Those who perpetrate gun violence so too promote the destruction of human life

TO THE EDITOR:

In Rhode Island Catholic’s June 2 editorial regarding the reception of Holy Communion, the editorial ends by stating “Those who unrepentantly promote the destruction of innocent human life do not stand to benefit from the reception of Holy Communion. This applies everywhere.” Following that reasoning, would that not also include any Catholic politician who refuses to vote for legislation that would promote gun safety? How many more innocent human lives need to be lost to gun violence before our elected leaders enact common-sense legislation that has been recommended by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops?
