A young woman from St. Patrick Church in Providence has answered a call to religious life. On August 1, Emily Cuellar became a novice with the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal (CFR) in New York. On this day, she received a habit, a new religious name — Sister Juan María of the Holy Spirit— and will begin wearing a white veil until she professes permanent vows and starts using the black veil over a gray habit. Her father Silvio Cuellar, editor of El Catolico de Rhode Island, shared that “She has always had a very strong devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe and her name reflects Saint Juan Diego, The Virgin of Guadalupe and the charism of the order: Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal.” Pictured above, on July 14, Cuellar, right, visited her family in Providence along with Sister Mary Pieta, who is leads Vocations at the Blessed Solanus Casey Convent in lower Manhattan where the candidates and postulants live until they enter the novitiate. Please keep Emily and her family in prayers as she takes her final step of formation in her journey to religious life.
