St. Francis Xavier Alumnae Assoc. to hold meeting

Blessed Sacrament plans celebration to honor saints

PROVIDENCE – Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Ave., will hold its annual St. Patrick’s Day/St. Joseph’s Day celebration, March 25, 4-8 p.m., in the parish hall. The event will include a buffet dinner featuring corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, chicken Parmesan, pasta, tossed salad, Irish soda bread, zeppoles, cupcakes, coffee and other beverages. Sister Rossi to offer Good Shepherd retreat

CRANSTON – Congregation of Notre Dame Sister Mary Ann Rossi will offer a Lenten retreat, “A Retreat Morning with the Good Shepherd,” March 24, 9 a.m.-noon, at St. Paul Church, One St. Paul Place. The retreat will explore the image of the Good Shepherd as presented in Psalm 23. Participants may make a free will offering. Reservations should be made by March 21. SS. John and Paulto host ‘Day with Mary’

COVENTRY – SS. John and Paul Church, 341 South Main St., will host a Day with Mary, March 24, beginning with a video shown in the parish center, 9 a.m. The program will be conducted by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate and will include a procession, Mass, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, enrollment in the Brown Scapular and conferring of the Miraculous Medal. Irish celebration to benefit St. Michael’s ministries

CRANSTON – The 14th annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration to benefit the social ministries of St. Michael Church, Providence, will be held March 17, 2-11 p.m., at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, 60 Rhodes Place. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day. The Irish Show Band, featuring Tommy Flynn, will perform from 7:30-11 p.m. Shuttle bus service will be available from Broad Street, and from the parking lot of St. Peter Church, 350 Fair St., Warwick. Theology on Tap to host Father Cordell

PROVIDENCE – The diocesan Young Adult Ministry will host Theology on Tap, March 22, 7 p.m. happy hour; 7:30 speaker and discussion, at Wine and Cheese, 1861 Smith St. Dominican Father Hyacinth Marie Cordell of St. Pius V Parish, Providence, will offer a presentation entitled “The Gospel Among Gadgets.” In his talk, Father Cordell will reflect and discuss how to follow Christ in a world dominated by social media and technology. Knights to hold Lenten chowder supper

Fatima Theatre Company to present ‘Wizard of Oz’

Father Burchill to discuss sin, healing

FOSTER – St. Paul the Apostle Church, 116A Danielson Pike, will hold a Lenten mission, March 24-28, presented by Dominican Father John Burchill. Father Burchill will preach at all weekend Masses, March 24-25, and March 26-28, at the 9 a.m. morning Mass and at 7 p.m. His topics are: March 26, “Whatever Became of Sin,” with communal sacrament of reconciliation; March 27, “He Touched Me: Healing Life’s Hurts,” with the sacrament of anointing; and March 28, “Greatfulness: Savoring Life’s Gifts.” For more information, call 647-3664.

Mission: How to live as contemporary disciples

EAST PROVIDENCE – St. Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., will hold a Lenten parish mission, March 17-21. The mission will be conducted by Father David Gaffney, director of spiritual formation at Our Lady of Providence Seminary, and campus minister at Bishop Hendricken High School, Warwick. The mission, themed “Living the ‘Our Father,’” will explore the teachings of Jesus for contemporary disciples. Father Gaffney will preach at weekend Masses, March 17, 5 p.m.; March 18, 8 and 10 a.m., and noon. Mission addresses conversion story

PROVIDENCE – Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Ave., will hold a Lenten mission offered by Father Dwight Longenecker, a former Anglican priest, March 12-14, 7 p.m., in the church. Father Longenecker, realizing that he and the Anglican Church were on divergent paths, was received with his family into the Catholic Church in 1995. He was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 2006, and ministers in South Carolina. St. Paul mission focuses on Sacred Heart

CRANSTON – St. Paul Church, One St. Paul Place, will host a Lenten mission, March 11-15, 7 p.m., in the church. The mission will be presented by Redemptionist Father William Gaffney, and will focus on the Sacred Heart. Father Gaffney will discuss knowing Jesus personally, experiencing his mercy, and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
