St. Rocco hosts talk on sexuality, relationships

JOHNSTON — The diocesan Office of Life and Family Ministry will offer a talk entitled “Let’s Talk About Sex,” March 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at St. Rocco Church, parish hall, 927 Atwood Ave. The evening will inspire teens to live to the greatness to which God calls them in the areas of sexuality and relationships. St. Casimir plans 90th anniversary celebration

PROVIDENCE — St. Casimir Church, 350 Smith St., will celebrate it’s 90th anniversary on April 11. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be the main celebrant of an Anniversary Mass at 11 a.m.; Father James Ruggieri, church pastor, will concelebrate. A reception and dinner will follow at the Kelley Gazzero VFW?Post, 1418 Plainfield St., Cranston. St. Casimir is the only church established to serve the Lithuanian community in Rhode Island. St. Luke hosting benefit pasta dinner

BARRINGTON — St. Luke Church will hold a pasta dinner, March 19, 5-8 p.m., in the school gym, Waldron Avenue. The menu will include chowder, pasta, pizza, salad and dessert. Take out is available. The dinner will benefit parish missionaries traveling to the Mustard Seed program in Jamaica. The event will include a penny social and every paid admission to the dinner is entered into a grand prize drawing of an afternoon sail with Father Luke Willenberg, assistant pastor. Penitents hold ‘Lenten Day of Recollection’

PORTSMOUTH — A Lenten Day of Recollection sponsored by the Confraternity of Penitents will be held March 6 at Portsmouth Abbey School, Cory’s Lane, with Benedictine Father Abbot Matthew Stark serving as presenter. St. Martha plans ‘Irish-Italian Night’

EAST PROVIDENCE — St. Martha Church, 2595 Pawtucket Ave., will host an “Irish-Italian Night,” March 20, 5 p.m., in Msgr. Bracq Hall. Knights to host corned beef supper

NORTH KINGSTOWN — The Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Council No. 2011, will hold a corned beef dinner, March 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the council headquarters, 1265 Tower Hill Road. Holy Cross presents Chesterton lecture

WORCESTER, MASS. — Holy Cross College will present a talk “Chesterton in America,” March 25, 7:30 p.m., in the Rehm Library, Smith Hall. The lecture will be presented by Basilian Father Ian Boyd and Professor Dermot Quinn of Seton Hall University, and will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the historic visit of G.K. Chesterton to the college, where he planted a tree and recited Joyce Kilmer's celebrated poem “Trees.” The free talk is co-sponsored by the G.K. Daughters of Isabella offer scholarships

EAST PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island State Circle, Daughters of Isabella, is awarding two scholarships in memory of Msgr. Thomas V. Cassidy, who served the organization for many years as chaplain. Two eighth grade girls entering the Catholic school of their choice will each be awarded a $2000 scholarship based on scholastic merit and need. The application deadline is April 1. Support program for separated, divorced

WARWICK — St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Ave, will host “The Broken Vows to New Hope Support Program” for separated and divorced Catholics, beginning March 4, 7 p.m. The eight-part program, sponsored by the Office of Life and Family Ministry, fully embraces the teachings of the Catholic Church, Catholic spirituality, and the grace, love and hope of our Lord Jesus Christ. The meetings will provide a time to reflect and share, and will include topics and discussions related to the impact and common experiences of divorce and separation. St. Joseph Church holds Lenten supper

Daughters of Isabella plan Penn-Dutch trip

WEST WARWICK — The Daughters of Isabella are hosting a bus trip to?Lancaster, Penn., April 26-29. The trip will include three nights lodging, six meals, motor coach transportation, a guided tour of Lancaster and the Amish country, and performances of “Joseph” at the Sight and Sound Millennium Theater and “Psalms of David” at the Living Waters Theater. Friar 5K accepting registrations

PROVIDENCE — Providence College will host its first annual “Friar 5K” race, April 18, registration on Slavin Lawn and in the Slavin Center Atrium beginning at 8 a.m.; start time, 10 a.m. The U.S.A. Track and Field-sanctioned event will cover 3.1 miles through the campus and neighborhood, beginning and finishing at Harkins Hall. Walkers are welcome to participate. Proceeds from registration fees will benefit the Providence College Fund; awards will be presented to the top finishers. Following the race, a wellness fair will be held on Slavin Lawn, featuring performances by student bands, refreshments and health-related vendors. Rel. Ed. workshop day continues registration

SMITHFIELD — On Saturday, March 13 at Bryant University, , Catholics will be given an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of marriage, same sex unions and Catholic teachings on this very important issue. A panel of three professors from Providence College will explore the issue with its implications upon culture, society and family. The workshop day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m. Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston will be celebrant of Mass and homilist; Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will welcome participants and concelebrate the Mass. St. Francis hosts Day of Recollection for priests
